Here is what the Salt House Treasurer Does

  • Ensures financial processes are followed
    • Reviews and approves expenses for accuracy (codes, receipts, proper procedures)
  • Provides financial reporting
    • Shares regular updates at council meetings
    • Prepares and delivers annual financial reports
  • Leads budget development
    • Prepares the annual budget
    • Helps guide financial planning for sustainability
  • Participates in church leadership
    • Serves as an active member of the council
    • Engages in general council responsibilities and decision-making
  • Maintains financial oversight (not management)
    • Monitors overall financial health without handling day-to-day transactions
    • Ensures systems are working rather than executing tasks
  • Supports sustainable decision-making
    • Balances mission goals with financial realities
    • Helps the church plan responsibly for the future
  • Collaborates with finance team
    • Works alongside financial secretary, counters, and staff
    • Leverages strong support system for shared responsibilities
  • Commits to a manageable time investment
    • Averages ~10–12 hours per month (more during budget season or reporting periods)
  • Operates within a clearly defined role
    • Responsibilities are well outlined in the church constitution
    • Focus remains on key financial oversight duties without excessive scope creep
