Colette Joy Huff

November 17, 2009

Colette Joy Huff, daughter of Ian and Elizabeth Huff. Sister to Molly and Cormac. Colette was born Nov. 17, 2009. Stillborn, beloved, and beautiful at 37 weeks.

Music had always been important in the Huff family, and shaped their experience of Colette, too. The song, “Oh love that will not let me go” was a favorite college song and they sang it at Colette’s memorial service which goes: “O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain, That morn shall tearless be.”
The hymn, Be Thou My Vision is the Huff family’s song. It was their wedding song, it was one of Molly’s first and favorite lullabies and it was Colette’s lullaby at the hospital before they let her go. They then also sang it over Cormac once he came along. Jeremiah 1:5 was Colette’s scripture verse: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…” A verse shared with them in the hospital by their doctor.

Ian and Liz speak of how they don’t understand why they lost Colette so early & it broke them in ways that they are still healing from, but they were and are privileged to be Colette’s daddy and mama.
