Luke Morgan Tyler

January 22, 2023

On January 22, 2023 we lost our beautiful son and brother, Luke Morgan Tyler (19), when he died by suicide.

He was born July 12, 2003 in Kirkland, WA, the son of John & Colleen (Burke) Tyler. He attended Sunrise Elementary School, Timberlake Middle School and graduated from Woodinville High School in June 2022 where he played JV & Varsity lacrosse and was awarded “The Best Peer Coach” for his work with neurodiverse students. He recently completed his first semester as a freshman at Washington State University, pledging the Theta Chi fraternity, and studying Kinesiology and with dreams of becoming a physical therapist.

Luke is survived by his parents John and Colleen Tyler of Redmond; and his brother Joshua (17). He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Ed and Sandy Burke, of Woodinville, WA; and his paternal grandmother, Jenny Owen, of Zanesville, OH. He is also survived by so many loving aunts, uncles and cousins and countless friends.
Luke was an avid athlete and a loyal team member with a thirst for adventure. He enjoyed playing soccer, little league baseball and NSYA basketball, all in a variety of positions. He demonstrated grit when he learned to ice skate just so he could play hockey. In high school, he transitioned from the ice to the field and started playing lacrosse for the Woodinville LAX team. And then took his love of the water and competitive drive to row with the Sammamish Rowing Association. Luke was always seen supporting his team both on and off the field. During COVID, Luke turned his athletic talents and fierce determination to body building where he entered and won first place in the novice category for the Washington State Open competition, which fueled his desire for his physical health and more competitions.
Luke loved sharing his passion for both sports on the water and body building. In the summers you could find Luke teaching kids to learn to sail at Sail Sand Point, lifeguarding, crabbing in the San Juans or just hanging with his friends and family on a kayak, SUP, sailboat and bridge jumping in the river. He also started an Instagram fitness page where he would share nutrition tips, help others with their gym routines and motivate people with his personal progress updates.
Luke was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, where he organized donation drives and helped serve meals to the less fortunate. He was a kind, compassionate person who stood up for the underdogs. He was determined and driven, and genuinely cared about others. He gave the biggest hugs, had the best smile and was known to his friends as a prankster while creating an environment where everyone could have fun. Luke was such a bright light, a shooting star, that came and went through our lives too quickly. Luke was a beacon of kindness to all: strangers, friends, and family. He will be greatly missed by many, whose lives he touched.
