SALT HOUSE MERCY TEAM

Salt House is working together to establish faithful resistance and response to the needs in our community related to increasing pressure toward immigrants and those who are undocumented within our community.

We believe this action is part of our calling to be the Salt and Light in our world through faithful preparation and active solidarity. This team will research resources, organize trainings, and help our church be ready to show up with love for our immigrant, Black, and brown neighbors when it matters most. If you feel called to help lead, learn, and stand with others—this is a place where your gifts and courage are needed.

Takeaways / Key Decisions

  • The group will be a long‑term Mercy Team, not only an 🧊response group. Our focus will be on:
    • Local, nonviolent, faith-rooted action
    • For immigrants, people of color, and other targeted neighbors
    • …as well as those who stand in solidarity with them

  • Team Name chosen: Mercy Team, so we can remain flexible for future issues, reduce the “saviorist” feel, and avoid attracting negative attention (thanks, John, for the original suggestion!)

  • Mission Statement: Team leaders will revise, based on this feedback:
    • Including a broader scope than “immigrants” alone
    • Consider naming what we stand against (unmerciful actions), as well as who we stand with (targeted people)

  • UPCOMING EVENTS - please consider attending!
  • Future meetings will be hybrid format with Microsoft Surface available so online folks can join on Teams meeting
    • Team leaders will discuss how often to meet (monthly?) and when the next meeting will be

  • Tell leaders how you want to plug in! Email team leaders with:
    • Which area(s) you’re interested in:
      • Weekly research & Sunday announcements
      • Legislator or law‑enforcement contact
      • Partner church/school outreach
      • Shelter volunteering (post‑training)
      • Public presence/protest organizing
      • Admin/communications
    • Any concrete ideas for supporting vulnerable neighbors (locally) that we didn’t name yet.
