Namibian BBQ

In just about any popular market in Namibia you can find Braais BBQ grilled on an open flame. These spiced beef strips are tossed into newspaper. Christmas Eve is an especially favorite time to enjoy Braais with gingerbread cookies together with family.

Ingredients:
  • about. 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) well marbled beef steak
  • cut into strips
  • about 2 tablespoons of sunflower or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:
  1. Place all the ingredients into a mortar and pestle
  2. Grind and Mix the ingredients into a powder
  3. Rub the spice on the beef strips and let sit for at least 1 hr.
  4. Skewer the beef
  5. Place skewers on hot grate over wood fire til cooked through
